We are entering into the 16th edition of Blogging Marathon. This edition will be the last in the series of doing 7 days of blogging. Come June, I will be introducing a new structure and mode of operation. So that makes this edition extra special and I have always been so glad that BM has found so many takers, who are as interested in it as I am.

I have been touched when I hear some of my BM members saying they blog mainly because of BM. And I want to make this special for their sake.

While all along, the thought and idea behind Blogging Marathon has always been to support all types of bloggers, be a month old or have been blogging over couple of years, we have now reached a stage where it has become important that we take up bloggers who have the passion and dedication to justify the readers time. It becomes very important to make sure each blogger who signs up, show a certain level of maturity, dedication and in general, being conscious of the reader's time. So towards that, it is decided that the group has some entry criteria in place. Each blog will scrutinized to make sure it fits the requirement before being accepted for the marathon.

There is no rule in BM that says one should write prose from English literature or take pictures that will fit a glossy magazine. However a certain degree of these are required to make a good read, which your readers will appreciate and will make them loyal readers.

Towards this, it is mandatory that when you sign up, you decide to spend valuable time being part of the group. That also means, no hasty and hurried posts, no posts that looks like last minute dished out recipes with blurry pictures that may be from nowhere. Your posts should have a mandatory picture of the dish published. Sticking to a reasonable time frame of posting as per the rules of the marathon is expected. Though I am quite lenient towards this, one has to understand and accept that by being part of this group, there will be other members who will want to read their posts.

In lieu of this, it is decided that if any blogger does not post more than two days in a row, will not be qualified for the next edition.

This is mostly because the themes are announced at least 10 days ahead and everybody have enough time to decide and take up themes and be prepared.

In addition to this, each theme is also restricted to only four bloggers on first come first bases. If you are selecting a theme that's already picked up, you will have to select another theme. If more bloggers sign up, a case by case decision will be taken. This is to make sure we don't have 10 bloggers doing the same theme where it does become very monotonous.

I have been proud of the way BM has paved way to build a great community. The group makes sure we read and support each other. If you have been following us, then you know that not only do we support the other blogger by reading and commenting, we also have private discussions which is an open forum. Being part of this group means, you got to actively take part in the discussions and to read the other participating blogger posts. If you are not ready for this, then this is not for you.

I have created a separate page for Blogging Marathon. Once I get all details I will be updating this page. Bloggers taking part in this marathon need to just link back to this page.

If you want to know how the Blogging Marathon started, read the first edition

So the 16th edition will 16th - 22nd May and the second group will start on 23rd - 29th May

Please email me at spicingyourlife@gmail.com latest by 12th May along with your theme.

FYI:  Requests to join after 12th May will not be accepted.

Mandatory rules for this Blogging Marathon are as below:
  • Will have to post on all 7 days without fail
  • Should follow the accepted theme all 7 days, meaning if you choose one topic like Rice, you should post all rice based recipes all 7 days.
  • Should link to the Blogging Marathon page.
  • Is expected to actively give feedback on others post.
New Rules for this edition: (this is something that is changed for each edition)

Mandatory commenting is removed only for this edition. While leaving a comment is expected, it is not mandatory. But participating in the group discussion is mandatory.

Each theme can be selected by four bloggers on first come first bases. Exception being for Indian Thali theme. For this, I will accept more than four bloggers.

Special Feature for members doing two weeks.

Can post themes from the below in combination.

Kid's Delight - What Kids love...for Summer
Indian Thalis
Shelf friendly dishes
Baking with  whole grains as main ingredient
Show your Breakfast - Click and share
Cooking with Colours

Other rules will be mailed to the individuals.

Themes for this edition are the following.

Kid's Delight - What Kids love...for Summer

With Summer on us, it's important we make dishes that kids love for having during Summer.

This edition can include Easy Snacks - sweets or savory, Hot or Cold, solid or liquid - all for Summer holidays.
But all seven days you should feature something different as Kids don't like the same thing all the time. They love variety.

Kid's Delight for the month of May will be hosted by Smitha Joga. Will update the link once she makes an announcement by May15th.

Indian Thalis

For this theme, you must feature at least 5 different, Everyday Thalis with atleast 4 - 5 dishes in one picture. The post must mandatory showcase the all the dishes in one picture.

The thali must have at least one new recipe, while it can include other dishes from your archives. And one complete picture of the thali should accompany the post.

The Thalis can be Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. Specific to a region or state. Can be pertaining to a festival or a feast. It can also be a fusion of different states or course. Left to your choice.

Since there have been so many requests for extending this Mela, I have extended the last date to May 31st. Entries made for this is eligible for my Indian Thali Mela, celebrating my 5 years of Blogging. Thank you.

Shelf friendly dishes  - Side dish for Rice / Dosas / Chapatis like Chutneys and Spice powders.

Under this theme, you can post chutneys and spice powders that can stay fresh for at least 3 - 4 days, either at room temperature or refrigerated.

For this edition you can showcase only chutneys or spice powders that can be served as side dish for Rice and Rotis. These powders should not something that is used during cooking. You can't post recipes like Sambar Powder, or Curry powders.

Again all seven days can't be just one single variety. Please mix and plan.

Baking with Whole grains as main ingredient

This time in baking, we will feature bakes with Whole grain as main ingredients. However I have heard from bakers like Champa, Rajani, that baking with only whole grain doesn't result in good bake. So you can replace some part with other flours. Whole grain flour should be either 60% - 70 %.

The bakes can be anything from cake to bread to other dishes as well. Again it need not always be only the western bakes in mind. You can always bake a naan in oven. Just an option. All your choice. But must feature only baked in oven are eligible.

Please go by the list given in Wiki for the list of whole grains.

Pick one Cook All - Filled up for the First week

Pick any one ingredient, it can be a vegetable/legume/fruit and make all course of dishes for the seven days with that ingredient.
You will have to post like 1 starter, 2 main course, 1 salad, 1 soup, 1 sweet/dessert, 1 snack.  It can be of any cuisine, state and completely fusion.
You can not mix the ingredient here. Example: If you select Toor Dal, you got to feature all 7 dishes with Toor dal as the main ingredient.

Show your Breakfast - Click and share

This should feature a complete breakfast along with its side dish.
The recipe featured should be a cooked meal and not showcase ready to eat cereals etc or any other ready to eat stuff.
You can post a recipe from your own blog, you can recreate from your BM members blog or post a new recipe.
If you are posting from your archive, it should meet the requirement and you can only do 2 such posts, rest of the 5 should be a new post.
You can't post just a picture of Dosa or Idli or Paratha and call it a day.

Cooking with Colours

Using naturally colored ingredients, make 7 different dishes. Artificial colouring is not allowed.
Like using beetroot, making coloured chapati, carrot puree etc.
