Blogging Marathon enters into its 15th edition. I am so glad to realize that BM has come to mean so much to lot of people. I can't but agree that each of my BM friends have made it a great experience. I have always enjoyed their dedication and interest in churning out delicious and tempting recipes and matching the themes on top.

While all along, the thought and idea behind Blogging Marathon has always been to support all types of bloggers, be a month old or have couple of years over them, we have now reached a stage where it has become important that we take up bloggers who have the passion and dedication to justify the readers time. It becomes very important to make sure each blogger who signs up, show a certain level of maturity, dedication and in general being conscious of the reader's time. So towards that, it is decided that the group has some entry criteria in place. Each blog will scrutinized to make sure it fits the requirement before being accepted for the marathon.

There is no rule in BM that says one should write prose from English literature or take pictures that will fit a glossy magazine. However a certain degree of these are required to make a good read, which your readers will appreciate and will make them loyal readers.

Towards this, it is mandatory that when you sign up, you decide to spend valuable time being part of the group. That also means, no hasty and hurried posts, no posts that looks like last minute dished out recipes with blurry pictures that may be from nowhere. Your posts should have a mandatory picture of the dish published. Sticking to a reasonable time frame of posting as per the rules of the marathon is expected. Though I am quite lenient towards this, one has to be understand and accept being part of a group that will be waiting to read their posts.

In addition to this, each theme is also restricted to only four bloggers on first come first bases. If you are selecting a theme that's already picked up, you will have to select another theme. If more bloggers sign up, a case by case decision will be taken.

This is to make sure we don't have 10 bloggers doing the same theme where it does become very monotonous.

I have been proud of the way BM has paved way to build a great community. The group makes sure we read and support each other. If you have been following us, then you know that not only do we support the other blogger by reading and commenting, we also have private discussions which is an open forum. Being part of this group means, you got to actively take part in the discussions and to read the other participating blogger posts. If you are not ready for this, then this is not for you.

I have created a separate page for Blogging Marathon. Once I get all details I will be updating this page. Bloggers taking part in this marathon need to just link back to this page.

If you want to know how the Blogging Marathon started, read the first edition

So the 15th edition will 16th - 22nd April and the second group will start on 23rd - 29th April.

Please email me at spicingyourlife@gmail.com latest by 12th April along with your theme.

FYI:  Requests to join after 12th April will not be accepted.

Mandatory rules for this Blogging Marathon are as below:

  • Should follow the accepted theme all 7 days, meaning if you choose one topic like Rice, you should post all rice based recipes all 7 days.
  • Should link to the Blogging Marathon page.
  • Should actively give feedback on others post.
New Rules for this edition:

Each theme can be selected by four bloggers on first come first bases. Exception being for Indian Thali theme. For this, I will accept more than four bloggers.
Blogger who selected Indian Thalis for the their first week, can post other new dishes that were part of the thali  for the second week.

Other rules will be mailed to the individuals.

Themes for this edition are the following.

Kid's Delight - Fruits

Use fruit in any of in your dish. It can be  smoothies, baking, salads, main course. But all seven days should feature one course and you can't make smoothies for all 7 days. Kid's Delight for the month of April will be hosted by Nupur of UK Rasoi. Will update once she makes the announcement.
Check Nupur's Announcement on Kid's Delight ~ Fruits

Indian Thalis

This must feature at least One Festive Thali and 3 -4 Simple everyday thalis.

Under this, you must showcase atleast one Festive Thali featuring  7 or more dishes. It can include dishes from your archives, meaning not all 7 dishes need to be new. However one new dish is mandatory with a complete picture of the thali posted.

The Thalis can be Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. Specific to a region or state. Can be pertaining to a festival or a feast.
Entries made for this is eligible for my Indian Thali Mela, celebrating my 5 years of Blogging. Thank you.

Accompaniment - Restrict to Chutneys,  Spice powders, Dry Sautes

Our Indian meal is not complete without an accompaniment. But restrict to only chutneys, spice powders and dry Sautes. Again all seven days can't be just one single variety. Please mix and plan.

Bread Baking

This time in baking, we will feature bread and it can be simple bread loaf to complicated stuff. All your choice. Again it need not always be only the western breads in mind. You can always bake a naan in oven. Just an option. But only breads baked in oven are eligible.

Cook by Alphabets - Filled up for both the weeks

Under this you can choose to cook starting from any alphabet and complete 7 alphabets.
Example if you want to start from letter C, then it can be something like,
C - Chow Chow Sambar
D - Dry Potato Roast
E - Ennai Kathirikai
F - Flan
G - Ginger Mango
H - Honey flavoured muffins
I - Idlis

You can start from any letter of choice but it has to be posted in sequence and you can be very creative. But please refrain from using all adjectives for all the posts before each word and make a post like Homemade Potatoes, Tempting Parathas, Kick*** Rotis etc!

It can be of any cuisine, state and completely fusion.

Cook Italian in Indian style

You know Italian, so just adapt all of them to Indian style. Include Indian flavours and make a dish.

Fermented Foods

Any and all fermented dish can be included under this. It can baked dishes with yeast / Idlis/ dhoklas/ Dosas). Anything that is fermented. Again you got to be doing a variety and not just idlis for 7 days or bread for 7 days.
