Maharashtrian Masala Bath | Masale Bhat Maharashtrian Style | Tindora Rice

I am a day late for my last day simply because I was lazy! Imagine having a post in the draft all ready, still not having the mood to write. Anyway I came back home early today as there was supposed to be a whole day power maintenance, which never happened. However all of us were not in the mood to work as such and left early. The sudden arrival at home early than normal, makes the things so different. I was happy seeing how glad the twins were to see me to receive them . 

I end up remembering my own school days and wonder where the days have flown! And these gives us such pleasures, that it's a crime to miss such ones. It's raining right now, the sky has been dark since afternoon, threatening to fall down heavy. However it isn't so heavy as one might wish. 
As I am writing this, kids are doing their homework, with my niece and nephew excitedly looking over. 

Anyway coming over to the recipe, this is yet another masala bath maharashtrian style. However with all such recipes, you can replace eggplant or Tindora. Since I had already done with eggplant, tried with tindora.

The rice was very spicy and had to adjust with curds for the side.









Maharashtrian Masala Bath

Ingredients Needed:

Cooked Rice  - 1 cup
Onion, juliennes  - 1 medium
Potato, juliennes - 1 big
Tendli / Tindora / Kovakkai, juliennes - 1/2 cup
Oil - 2 tbsp
Bay leaves - 2
Red Chilli powder - 1 tsp
Goda masala - 3 tsp
Salt to taste

Spice powder

Dry Coconut / Copra - 3 tbsp
Coriander Seeds / Dhaniya - 1 tbsp
Cumin Seeds Jeera - 1 tsp
Garlic flakes - 4,5
Ginger - ½ “
Green chilli - 3

To garnish:

Chopped coriander leaves - 2 tbsp

How to make the Masala Bhath

Have cooked rice ready.

Heat a kadai with oil. add bay leaves, add add onion & fry till they start turning colour.

Next add potatoes and red chili powder, turmeric powder. Simmer and cook till the potatoes turn half soft.

Now add the tendli and continue cooking till it turns soft.

Add the goda masala, cooked rice and spice powder. combine everything and ensure it gets cooked in dum for all the flavours to get fused.

Serve with Raitha.

Notes

You can use raw rice and cook this along with the masala in pressure cooker. Somehow making this with cooked rice is very easy.

You can add peas along with other vegetables.

This rice ends up being quite spicy, so make sure you adjust the spice levels
