Maharashtrian Masala Bath
Cooked Rice - 1 cup
Onion, juliennes - 1 medium
Potato, juliennes - 1 big
Tendli / Tindora / Kovakkai, juliennes - 1/2 cup
Oil - 2 tbsp
Bay leaves - 2
Red Chilli powder - 1 tsp
Goda masala - 3 tsp
Salt to taste
Dry Coconut / Copra - 3 tbsp
Coriander Seeds / Dhaniya - 1 tbsp
Cumin Seeds Jeera - 1 tsp
Garlic flakes - 4,5
Ginger - ½ “
Green chilli - 3
Chopped coriander leaves - 2 tbsp
How to make the Masala Bhath
Have cooked rice ready.
Heat a kadai with oil. add bay leaves, add add onion & fry till they start turning colour.
Next add potatoes and red chili powder, turmeric powder. Simmer and cook till the potatoes turn half soft.
Now add the tendli and continue cooking till it turns soft.
Add the goda masala, cooked rice and spice powder. combine everything and ensure it gets cooked in dum for all the flavours to get fused.
Serve with Raitha.
You can use raw rice and cook this along with the masala in pressure cooker. Somehow making this with cooked rice is very easy.
You can add peas along with other vegetables.
This rice ends up being quite spicy, so make sure you adjust the spice levels
