Spicy Tomato Macaroni with Cheese | Curried Macaroni, Indian Style with Step by Step Recipe

>>  Sunday, July 17, 2011

We love macaroni for breakfast. It gives us a change from the usual Idli or Dosa we make regularly. I was happy that my kids love pasta too. Tomato Macaroni has been a regular one since my childhood with Amma making it regularly for breakfast on Sundays. It also served as quick breakfast option on those hurried days.

I have already posted different pasta dishes, like
Macroni in Tomato Sauce
Quick Macaroni in Tomato Sauce,
Macaroni with White Sauce
Penne Pasta with Onion, Tomato sauce

So it was a different experience trying out the recipe given on the macaroni packet.

Spicy Tomato Macaroni with cheese

Step by Step pictures

Ingredients Needed:

Macaroni - 1 cup
Onions - 1/2 medium
Tomato  - 1 medium
Red chili powder - 1/2 tsp
Garam Masala - 1/4 tsp
Jeera powder / Cumin - 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste
Oil - 1 tsp
Cheese - 1 cube

Method to prepare:

In a non stick pan, add oil, onions. Saute the onions well. Then add salt, spice powders. Once it's cooked, add the tomatoes and cook for couple of minutes.

Add water to the pan and bring to boil. This can be done quickly by covering it with lid.

Then add the macaroni and simmer for 10 mins, stirring it frequently.

Cook till the pasta is cooked and water is all absorbed.

Grate the cheese and add to the pasta when it's still hot. Serve it hot.

Notes: I added the tomatoes as such, you can puree it so that the skin is not there as a hindrance to kids when they eat. Reduce the spice or increase as required.

Nice, simple and easy..and who does not have a bambino pasta packet. I believe it was the first brand of macaroni to be widely available across India.

Looks good Valli. Though pasta is cooked frequently at my home, I somehow never have tried Indianising it. :)
